The hotel is well located and you can walk to the city and restaurants in 20 minutes, which we found very convenient.
Some of the parking spaces are free, otherwise you can park on the street for free.
The room was nice and the bed comfortable.
The bathroom was inside and separated by two sliding doors.
Unfortunately, you have to get used to the fact that in New Zealand you usually have to check out at 10 a.m.
Overall, I can highly recommend it.
On the day of checking-in, we found hair and stain marks (mud?) on the bed covering on both beds, however after showing the receptionist the photos, they took it seriously and reacted fast. The room got cleaned while we were out. They provided us with the complimentary breakfast for two as a courtesy compensation. With their positive attitude and efficient responses and reactions, we were happy to think that it was just an accident.
There must be some sort of car racing going on in New Plymouth on the day of our second-day stay. As we were waken up early in the morning, before 7am, by lots and lots of noises coming from the running of car engines that was so close to us. As we opened up the curtains to see what was going on, we then shockingly saw many racing cars were just lining right in front of the hotel main entrance, getting some sort of registration or something as you can see there was a table and some staff there doing something. Therefore, racing cars kept coming in more and more, and the annoying noises were constantly heard from the engine and people’s talkings over and over until around 7:30am. Honestly, we were quite unhappy about that! Visitors coming to stay at a hotel hoping to have some good rest, not expecting to be waken up early in the morning in that way. If they have arranged this type of event, they should have let all other guests know of this in advance when the booking was made to ensure that they are prepared or willing to take it. Therefore, with this thing happening that morning, I am not sure if I would want to go back to this place or not. Sorry to say that but I didn’t feel well after being waken up that early with constant noises and didn’t feel any respect in the situation.
Hopefully to see some improvements there.
Ariki Backpacker is in a great location, close to the museum, the coastal walkway, and a large market within walking distance.
The staff were very friendly, and it was nice to be able to do laundry at a low price and rent a bike at a very good price.
It was a guesthouse with great facilities overall, such as a small movie theater-like room, a restaurant, and a bathroom.
The cleanliness was also good.. I will definitely use it again next time.
I highly recommend this accommodation..
Well ..Firstly..AS SOON AS I GOT INTO THE APARTMENT...IT WAS LIKE...””IM INSIDE AN OVEN ”..OR IN A 😓 desert !!
I went all around the apartment looking for aircon....but...
Trust me....NONE...
SO I am actually going through menopause...and I WAS VERY 😡 upset ..I knew this very moment....””I WONT SLEEP IN THIS HEAT TONIGHT ..hot flush n then the apartment was really really 🔥 HOT...THE temp yesterday was as high as 30°c...I have pictures as evidence ..on the Facebook community page about the temp last night or yesterday..
I KEPT ON Taking short cold showers in order to get ”:some'””
Sleep..
But yes ..It was a long frustrating night for me..
Secondly..at 11.00pm..to 1135pm.WE HAD NO WIFI...
I HAD TO EMAIL .TRIP.COM..
SO AFTER 25MINS ...THE WIFI WAS TURNED BACK ON...
THIRDLY...fleas in ALL BEDDINGS...
WE TOOK OFF THE BEDDNGS ..N SLEPT ON THE FLOOR..
Because on the bed..the fleas were biting n I brought sheets from home .. which I always do whenever I go to any hotel ..
N used it to spread it ontop just to lay down on it...
Well apart from all these ..everything else was fine ...
But yes ..I would NEVER BOOK ACCOMODATION without aircon ...I cannot imagine ..how is it possible 🤔 esp in an area such as taranaki ...with so much heat ...n NO AIRCON...WELL THATS ALL ..
U can see the photos...it's telling u..the temperature.
I'm.. NOT the only one ..who felt the heat ...
It's NOT JUST ABOUT MY MENOPAUSE...
THE TEMP DURING SUMMER IS UNTOLERABLE for EVERYONE!@
The staff members were so nice and friendly. The room was very clean and tidy. Share toilets and share kitchen were just nearby our room and they were clean as well. Would definitely come back and recommend this place :)
Super clean rooms with great beds and complete kitchen. Lovely shower and bathroom. Everything you would expect. Friendly welcome and enough parking space.

GGuest UserMediocre.
There were some significant issues during our stay. That being said, the service was friendly and they tried to help where there was an issue. Unfortunately, there were a few though.
To start with, they gave us the wrong room, not that which we had booked (a double instead of a twin). They quickly accomodated this however and moved us. Over the first night, we noticed it had been particularly hot. Despite there being AC in the room and having it on the lowest settings, it did not cool the room. We did inform them of this and they offered to move rooms or give us a fan, this was helpful but dissapointing that it had not been checked earlier. We were also dissapointed that there were no towels provided, despite face cloths being so. The car park was non-existent, being a junk yard instead. There was street parking available but felt less secure. The location was resonable with easy access to takeaways and the supermarket. There were some troubles over the nights including loud, persistent banging on the doors which the owners seemed to do nothing about. Possibly patrons of the attached bar. We did not use the bar or restuarant facilities so cannot comment there. On the bright side, the shower was excellent! Great pressure and temperature, lovely after a long day out.
GGuest UserSignage made property easy to find. Property immaculately presented inside and out. Checkin very easy, well dressed host pleasure to deal with. Room was spotless and provided everything travellers would require. VERY tiny, teeny weeny thing- no instructions on how to use the TV! If you dont have Sky at home, and given 2 remotes , very confusing. I strongly believe that host would have solved this issue if I had asked and if I hadnt been so tired, I would have asked him. But this in NO way would stop me returning or recommending this motel to fellow travellers. 5 out of 5 rating.
GGuest UserThe hotel is probably quite old, but it is still very clean and in a good location, right in the city center, very convenient to supermarkets or restaurants, and close to the beach for a stroll; parking is also very convenient downstairs; the view outside the window is also great, you can see the sea directly
GGuest UserGood price for 5 nights. As I mentioned at reception the room service staff replaced towels that were hung up and which I was happy to use again (contrary to what it said on the card in the bathroom and is now standard practice in most hotels). That was an extra 4 towels to the laundry over 5 days for one room - this all adds up - I am just thinking of the planet and also the autolodge laundry bills!
CClarenceI booked a Double or Twin Room in The Metrotel for 3 people staying two nights in New Plymouth. First, the room is spacious enough that we could have our own space during the stay and everything is neat and tidy. There is a in-room mini kitchen and guest laundry outside while it is very important to us. Highly recommended this to you.

MMatthew AhnBeautiful location. People were very friendly and helpful. It is old building so there were some random sound but it was manageable to sleep through.
