There is also Erdun Traditional Hot Pot across the street, which is a paradise for me who loves hot pot 🥳! It takes about 1 hour to drive from Hohhot to Red Stone Cliff. On the way, you will pass the Chiller River Prairie, where you can take a stroll and experience the racecourse. Then drive forward to Daqing Mountain. Don't worry about missing the scenery along the way. There are cars on the side of the road at every photo spot. You can stop and take photos at any time. At the fork in the road, you can choose to go left to Red Stone Cliff or right to Jiulong Bay and Holy Water Beam. If you have time, you can also visit Jiulong Bay, but you need to pay a parking fee of 10 yuan and an entrance fee. Then return to Red Stone Cliff by the original route. There is only one road in the scenic area, which can be driven directly to the exit. There are no obvious signs pointing to the exit. The further you go, the more you feel like you are in a no-man's land. At that time, there was no signal in the mountains, and I almost turned back. There are many free-range cows and sheep in the scenic area. You can get off at any time and take photos with them. The mountain road is winding, so be sure to drive slowly. After a day of racing with small animals, drive back to the city and have a whole meal at the Xiaomi Restaurant. The mutton hotpot is so fragrant that it flies.

Since this stay will be relatively long, I focused on searching for nearby amenities, such as social dining, attractions, supermarkets, etc. In the nearby living area, there is a Hualian Supermarket downstairs, and it is a 5-15 minute walk to attractions like Xilituzhao, Dazhao Temple, and Wuta Temple. A five-minute walk to Shaomai Street, a taxi starting fare or a 15-minute walk to the famous Kuanzhai Alley (Hui Minority Food Street), and downstairs is Qingcheng Park. A commercial street similar to Beijing's Xidan is also within walking distance. Besides convenience, I don't know how else to describe it. Let's talk about the hotel experience first. Indeed, professionals do professional things. The first person to serve me upon entering the hotel was a young man from the concierge department. He was polite, smiled, and didn't talk much, making me, an introvert, feel comfortable. The young lady who checked me in not only introduced the hotel facilities but also provided some simple information about nearby amenities based on my long stay. It is said that the entire leather background wall in the hotel lobby is Hermes, and many detailed ornaments in the corridors are also Hermes elements, especially the Hermes scarves as wall decorations in the top floor elevator hall. The sense of security was actually felt from the moment I entered the hotel. From the lobby to the elevator and the room, it was the familiar fragrance. Each brand has its unique fragrance. The room mattress, toiletries, drinking water, slippers, and other details are all according to the group's standards. The smart toilet is convenient and functional. Breakfast is in the Chao Restaurant on the first floor, with a rich variety. In addition to standard foods, there are also local specialties such as milk tea, various cheeses, shaomai, and lamb offal soup. There are many choices. It is worth mentioning that the dairy products here are genuinely good, with a visible layer of milk skin on the hot milk. For people with weak stomachs, hotel meals are crucial. Basically, every meal was arranged in the hotel. The Chinese restaurant Cai Feng Lou on the fourth floor, I like the window seats. It's mostly 'one-person meals,' choosing one or two dishes each time. The restaurant staff are enthusiastic but not overly so, maintaining a good sense of boundaries. They provided recommendations when I was having difficulty choosing, which was very timely. The attached pictures are just a part; I have many more 'phone-first' dishes. On weekends, the lobby bar offers a single-person afternoon tea voucher, with a piece of cake, a latte, a phone, or a book. An afternoon is never enough, whether it's raining or windy, I always want to stop and rest for a while. The top-floor gym and the highest infinity pool in Hohhot are suitable for taking photos (because I am a 'landlubber').

This was a very quick trip before our train ride to Baotou and imagine, we visited these beautiful temples for 30 minutes and it was a lot if fun with so many people. Though we kind of regret that we don't have so much time to explore the traditional street and see what they are selling there but still we love the experience having seen so much beauty. Take note: the five pagoda temple is for free.

One ticket costs ¥15 and it takes around 1 hour to reach city center. Bus departs once the full passanger capacity is reached. 💛DiDi - taxi service to the city costs around ¥50. The city of Hohhot is not only famous for its food! It’s mountains, and grasslands, and sunsets are all worth seeing. If you are an advisor backpacker like me then a view such as this is not something you will want to miss. Walking through the grasslands at sunset. Hohhot, a key city of Inner Mongolia, is located in the central part of Inner Mongolia linking with Yinshan Mountain to the north, Yellow River to the south, Baotou and Ordos to the west, and Ulanqab to the east. I was at this hotel for 8 days. Good food, not far from the airport, near the railway. There is a large shopping center nearby. Hohhot, formerly known as Kweisui, is the capital of Inner Mongolia in the north of the People's Republic of China, serving as the region's administrative, economic and cultural center. Hohhot is a relatively small city by Chinese standards, about the same size as Birmingham (the UK’s second largest city). Hohhot’s size means that it offers a wide range of amenities without feeling overcrowded and makes it possible to travel everywhere by bike or taxi. Surrounded by grasslands, the air quality is very good. The city itself is located on a plateau about 400km west of Beijing and has its own international airport. Hohhot’s location makes it the ideal place to come if you wish to experience the ‘real’ China, while at the same time being within touching distance of Mongolia. #skiadventure

We cycled there from Dalad. It is a beautiful grassland however a lot of the attractions inside are not really maintained well. About 2 hours is enough for visiting. It is worth to have a look at the lake in the grassland there as well.

A city on the rise!!! Hohhot has the best lamb dishes. The ribs, skewers and coriander dishes were delicious. The city has a rich history with lots on show for you to visit. The temples, statues and religious buildings are still key hubs in the community. The best way to explore the city is on the electric scooters that are all around the city with wide bike lanes to suit. In the Hohhot history museum there are some great exhibits covering thousands of years of Inner Mongolian history and wildlife. The bars and hotels in Hohhot are developing as the City expands, but there are some great craft beer bars and rooftop spots for an evening above the city. I've no doubt in the future Hohhot will be a vibrant city with tons to offer. For now it's a fun city to visit for a day before you head to the desert or grasslands. Definitely order some lamb ribs
