Akita City Folk Performing Arts Museum Nickname: Neburi Nagashi Museum

The Folk Performing Arts Museum opened in 1992 as a branch of the Akita Municipal Red Brick Local Museum to preserve and pass on local folk events and performing arts, including Kanto, and is affectionately known as the "Neburi Nagashi Museum." Within the museum is the former Kaneko residence. The Kaneko family ran a pawnbroker and second-hand clothing business in the late Edo period, and in the early Meiji period they founded a wholesale business selling kimonos and heavy goods (cotton and linen fabrics), running their business here until 1975. The former Kaneko residence is a traditional building that retains the characteristics of a townhouse from the late Edo period, and consists of a main house and a storehouse. The main house and rice-picking storehouse were destroyed in the Tawaraya fire in 1886, but the storehouse survived and has been treasured as the guardian deity of the Kaneko family. (The main house was rebuilt in 1887.) The owner donated it to Akita City in 1996, and it was designated a tangible cultural property by the city in 1997. #Breathtaking views
