This palace was ordered to be built by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and was established as the Phaya Thai Palace during the reign of King Mongkut (Rama VI). It used to be a hotel and a military hospital before and is now located in Phramongkutklao Hospital. To visit, you must register as a walk-in only at Phiman Chakri Throne Hall. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays, 2 times a day at 9:30 and 11:30. The entrance fee is 60 baht (I recommend the morning round). We traveled by BTS and got off at Victory Monument Station. We went down the stairs at Ratchawithi Island and walked another 750 meters to Phiman Chakri Throne Hall. We walked in to register and buy tickets. Then the guide let us sit and watch a historical video while waiting for the entrance time. Then the guide took us around and explained the history of the palace, each room, and the materials used to build this palace. Various points inside and outside the palace, some are still original, some are newly renovated. There are both items from the time of King Rama VI and when it was a hotel.
