The Great Temple of the Atonement

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Barcelona (Region) In 1883, the brilliant architect Gaudí agreed to take on the project, succeeding Francisco de Paula, and worked on it until his death. Work on the completion of this great cathedral continues to this day. The first architect to undertake the project initially planned to construct a neo-Gothic building. However, Gaudí took over the building after his death and, while preserving the original layout, he quickly put his own personal stamp and unique style on the building. He only completed the crypt and the gate of the San José Church and the El Nacimiento Church.
