Ruins of an early Visigothic palace

Mediterranean Coast Tour of Spain ~ Barcelona (Region) The Tinell Hall (Saló del Tinell) sits atop the ruins of an early Visigothic palace. In 985, the first palace and other parts of the city were looted by soldiers of the Caliph of Córdoba, Al-Mansur. In the latter half of the 11th century, the building was demolished and replaced with a new structure. The current Tinell Hall, built in Gothic style, was constructed between 1359 and 1362 by King Peter IV of Aragon, with architect Guillem Carbonell. The hall was used for various ceremonies and royal receptions. Remnants of the grand mural depicting King James I of Aragon, "The Conqueror," and his conquest of Mallorca are still preserved.
