Pray for love at "Wat Nantharam" in Phayao Province

“Wat Nantharam” is a temple that stands out with its teakwood chapel decorated with beautiful wood carvings, a work of Shan-Burmese Buddhist art. It is located in Yuan Subdistrict, Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province. It is not known when it was built, but it was originally called “Jong Man” or “Jong Kha” because the temple roof was thatched with cogon grass. Jong Man or Jong Nuea has been in a state of disrepair for many generations because it lacked caretakers. Later, in 1924, Father Takah Jong Nanta (Wu) Wong-anan, a Pa-O (Tong Su) tycoon who received a concession to make wood for a foreign timber company, invited devotees to join in renovating and improving it to be strong and beautiful, worthy of being a Buddhist temple. Later, Mother Jam Heng Prasertkun donated 5 rai, 1 ngan, and 72 square wah of land to build a new chapel, hiring Burmese craftsmen from Lampang Province to design and construct an entire wooden chapel in the architectural style of Lower Burma. The gable roof is beautifully layered. Inside the temple is the principal golden teak Buddha image named Phra Phuttha Metta, which is a Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude dressed in Mandalay style. There are also 8 little Cupids, the god of love, carved behind the principal Buddha image.
