Phraya Khuen Kaew, the mayor of Mae Chaem, bought the land to build the temple in 1857. The construction of the temple was completed and celebrated in 1885. The Ho Trai was built in 1907, and the new Ubosot of the temple was built outside the temple walls in 1900. Wat Pa Daet is one of the famous temples in Mae Chaem in the past because it was promoted and publicized by the annual Chula Kathin ceremony initiated by Ajarn Pao Thong Thongchuea, who used the temple as part of the ceremony. It also has valuable mural paintings that are still in good condition. The building of the Ho Trai temple has been restored and is registered as a national historical site. The temple of Wat Pa Daet is a Lanna style temple with different details of the plan and roof. It is a rectangular building with a raised roof, which means the width of the pillars is reduced. The roof has two levels and three levels. There is no front porch, but it is a hall and no back porch, which is a unique characteristic of Lanna temples that is different from the central style. The mural paintings of Wat Pa Daet are very famous in Mueang Chaem. They are approximately 150 years old and were painted by a Tai Yai artist (this issue is still questionable because the inscriptions under the paintings are in Lanna script, not Tai Yai script). They are still in relatively good condition. They depict the life of the Buddha, Vessantara Jataka, Witurabandit, and the folktale of Chanthaka, reflecting the way of life of the people of Mae Chaem 100 years ago, both in terms of farming and clothing.
