Landmark Pagoda Ruins! Wat Chedi Luang in Chiang Mai

If you're traveling to Chiang Mai, Thailand, this is a must-visit temple. Located in the heart of the old city, foreigners can enter for 50 baht. Chiang Mai is home to many temples, but what sets this one apart is its massive stone pagoda ruins! Standing at 42 meters, it can be seen from anywhere in the city. Construction of this temple began over 600 years ago in the 14th century. The original pagoda was said to be over 86 meters tall, more than double its current height. It was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1545, resulting in its present size. The long history and the story of its partial collapse and transformation into ruins give it a romantic allure, making it highly recommended. (Moreover, the golden Buddha statues placed on all four sides of the pagoda add to its mystical charm!) Within the temple grounds, there are several other spots, including the main hall housing a large Buddha and smaller shrines, allowing you to spend a relaxing time without getting bored.
