Inubozaki Lighthouse and Former Inubozaki Fog Signal Station

The Former Inubosaki Fog Signal Station and Foghorn House is located on the grounds of Inubosaki Lighthouse in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture. Here you can listen (although it is a recording) to the sound of the foghorn that once echoed across the waters of Inubosaki. The sound came from a horn protruding from the ceiling of the foghorn house, informing ships sailing offshore of the location of Inubosaki. As excessive sounding of the horn would be a nuisance to nearby residents, the light from the lighthouse was usually used, but when thick fog hung over the sea making the light from the lighthouse useless, this foghorn was used as a substitute for light. #Travelingwithme
