Hakozaki Shrine

Hakozaki Shrine is one of Fukuoka’s most historically significant shrines, famous for its connection to samurai warriors and Japan’s fight against Mongol invasions. As soon as I entered, I was greeted by a massive torii gate and ancient stone lanterns, setting a mystical vibe. This shrine is especially famous for its Hōjoe Festival, where people release fish and birds as a symbol of peace. The architecture is beautiful, with intricate wooden carvings and large guardian statues. I also loved exploring the surrounding garden, which features a peaceful koi pond and walking paths. Since it’s not as touristy as Dazaifu, the experience here felt more local and authentic. If you’re interested in samurai history, spiritual sites, or just want a quiet cultural escape, this is a great spot. Plus, it’s easy to reach from central Fukuoka, making it a convenient stop!
