【Discover Guangzhou】Lizhiwan Scenic Area

Also known as Lizhiwan Canal, it is a famous scenic spot in Guangzhou. Located in the center of Guangzhou city, it is not strictly an isolated river, but rather the collective name for the crisscrossing water system in the riverside wetlands around Liwan Road, Zhongshan 8th Road, Huangsha Avenue (north section), Duobao Road (west section), and Longjin West Road, which were to the west of the old Guangzhou city. The area boasts beautiful natural scenery and a rich cultural heritage, making it an ideal destination for tourism, sightseeing, leisure, and entertainment. The main water system includes the main stream of Lizhiwan Canal, its tributaries, and Liwan Lake, named 'Lizhiwan' because of the lychee trees planted along the riverbanks. The name dates back to 206 BC. Riverside attractions include Liang's Ancestral Hall, Guangzhou Wenjin Antique City, Wen Tower, Longjin Bridge, Xiguan Mansions, the former residence of Chen Lianbo, and the former residence of Jiang Guangnai, among others. Historically, it also flowed south into Liubo Canal and then into the Pearl River's White Goose Pool, which is now one of Guangzhou's famous scenic spots.
