Guangdong Museum of Art Collection of Woodblock Prints - New Woodcut and Guangdong Print

On the 5th floor of the new Guangdong Museum of Art, I visited the "Guangdong Museum of Art Collection of Woodblock Prints - New Woodcut and Guangdong Print" exhibition. Mr. Lu Xun was not only the founder of modern Chinese literature, but also a strong advocate of the new woodcut as a propaganda medium. Under his advocacy, the Chinese new woodcut movement, led by progressive young artists, began to emerge. They took it upon themselves to depict the suffering of the people and the national crisis, with the aim of promoting and encouraging, linking artistic creation with the working masses, expressing a strong sense of concern and patriotism, calling on and inspiring the people to join the tide of resistance against aggression and violence, and becoming a powerful tool for revolutionary propaganda. The artists' insistence on expressing the demands of the people and their resistance to the oppression of the old forces made them the most faithful spokespersons for the Chinese people in the old society. Under the influence of the new woodcut movement, Guangdong woodcut art began to "show a strong new bud growing in the wilderness" (Lu Xun), and developed and grew vigorously.
