Trekking through the Wilderness: Exploring Kuk Po Keng and Embracing the Perfect Blend of Nature and City

Kuk Po Keng, known as the 'Wugong Mountain of Hong Kong', features vast alpine meadows that, along with the suburban Hong Kong and Shenzhen city SKYLINE, offer stunning views. There is mobile signal throughout the journey, and the hiking difficulty is not too high, making it less stressful for beginners. Route: Futian Port - Yuen Long - Fung Kat Heung Road Entrance - Kuk Po Keng Yuen Long Section - Kuk Po Keng Sheung Shui Section - Sheung Shui - Luohu Port. Note: I didn't follow the recommended route from Futian Port directly to the mountain. Instead, I went to Yuen Long market to eat and replenish before taking an Uber to the Fung Kat Heung trailhead. Duration: 11:30-18:15, the whole hiking journey took about seven hours. Tips: 1. There's a lot of grass, and the mountain grass is sharp, so protect your legs from being scratched by the leaves. 2. Protect yourself from mosquitoes and insects, and be cautious around grass piles as there may be snakes and other creatures. 3. Bring enough water, but as there are no trash bins on the mountain, please take your water bottles and trash with you. 4. Be sure to apply sunscreen, even if it feels cooler on the mountain. I applied sunscreen once but still got sunburned. 5. The descent towards Sheung Shui and Fanling is not easy, and the interval between 77K buses is quite long after coming down the mountain. 6. After descending, minibuses only accept cash, so remember to exchange for Hong Kong dollars. 7. The highest altitude is 574 meters, with an ascent of about 500 meters.
