Hong Kong Hiking Trail: Lau Shui Heung

Lau Shui Heung's History Spanning Over 200 Years Lau Shui Heung (also known as Lau Shui) has a history of over 200 years. It was documented in the 1819 "Xin'an County Gazetteer": "The source of Lau Shui Heung Pool has several stone wells, naturally formed, about a fathom deep. In spring and summer, the water rushes like a waterfall, while in autumn and winter, it flows gently with a soft sound." The exact location of the stone wells remains unknown. The Lau Shui Heung Reservoir was built in 1968 as part of the Plover Cove Reservoir project, primarily for irrigation purposes. How to Get to Lau Shui Heung The 52B minibus is a common way to reach Lau Shui Heung Reservoir. Board the minibus at the Fanling Exit C minibus station, and you'll arrive in about 15 minutes. If traveling with friends, you can take a taxi from Fanling Exit C, costing approximately HK$60-70. Get off at the roundabout where Lau Shui Heung Road intersects with Hok Tau Road. There, you'll find a sign for the Pat Sin Leng Country Park. Walk slightly uphill for about 10 minutes to reach the restroom near Lau Shui Heung Reservoir. If you have a long-lens camera, you can photograph the red leaves to the right of the restroom. Otherwise, head left to enter the Lau Shui Heung Hiking Trail. Both the staircase and flat path at the fork are marked "Lau Shui Heung Hiking Trail," serving as both the starting and ending points of the trail. Best Time to Visit: December to January for Viewing Red Leaves.
