Guide to visiting the French Bicentennial Jewelry Exhibition at the Hong Kong University Art Museum

The exhibition will be open to the public from June 6 to October 5, 2025. There has been little research and writing on jewellery drawings, and even fewer opportunities for exhibitions, making them little known to the public. A parallel exhibition will be held at L’ÉCOLE, the School of Jewellery Arts, at K11 Musea. The exhibition is made possible by the Van Cleef & Arpels Collection and the Van Cleef & Arpels Foundation for Jewellery Culture (created in 2019 for research, exhibition and education), with loans from the Lalique Museum in France and a private jewellery collection in Hong Kong. The exhibition features approximately 100 selected drawings and 13 meticulous jewellery pieces. French jewellery making has a long history of excellence and far-reaching influence. The exhibition “Treasures of the Pen: Two Hundred Years of French Jewellery Craftsmanship (1770-1970)” and its catalogue, which showcase the culture of jewellery design conception – from preliminary sketches to gouache drawings, and finally refined into immortal works, illustrates the outstanding achievements of many creators.
