Shiroyama Observatory and Shiroyama Nature Trail

The observation deck overlooking the volcano is just a 5-minute bus ride up the mountain from the city center to enjoy the beautiful view. Shiroyama is a 107-meter-high mountain located in the center of Kagoshima City. Because there was a mountain castle built here in the past, this is also the origin of the name of the city mountain. There is a 2-kilometer-long walking path leading to the observatory, and around 600 species of plants grow lushly around it. Although Shiroyama is located in the center of the city, it is a natural treasure trove where many wild birds and insects live.
