The entire town is the temple precincts

#aprilblooms Mt. Koya was opened by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in the 7th year of Konin (816). It is a sacred place of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism centred on "Kongobu-ji Temple", and the entire town, which extends to the mountain basin at an altitude of about 800 metres surrounded by 1,000-metre-class mountains, is a religious city where the temple is considered to be the precincts. It is Japan's first multi-ho pagoda, and there are many spots that make you feel about 1,200 years of history, including "Danjo Garan" with the Nemoto Pagoda, the symbol of Mt. Koya, and "Okuno-in", where the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi is located.
