Wat Chang Rop, an ancient site in Kamphaeng Phet

#Where to travel this summer The ancient site of Wat Chang Rob is located on a laterite hill outside the city wall on the northern side, which is the Aranyik area of ​​Kamphaeng Phet. The layout of the temple faces east. The temple wall is made of laterite only on the eastern and southern sides. The important building is a large bell-shaped main stupa, which was influenced by the Chang Lom stupa in Sukhothai art. The main stupa consists of a large square circumambulation base with stairs in the middle of all four sides to reach the upper area or circumambulation area. The walls of the square base of the main stupa are decorated with 68 stucco elephant sculptures. The characteristics of the elephant sculptures are only the head and two front legs protruding from the circumambulation base. There are stucco decorations on the neck, the crown on the head, bracelets at the base of the legs and ankles. The wall between each elephant and the elephant is decorated with low-relief stucco of flora. The stucco pattern in the shape of a leaf on the neck of the elephant sculpture is similar to the pattern of the cloth of the bronze statue of Shiva found in Kamphaeng Phet. There is an inscription indicating the year 2053, so it can be determined by using the comparative dating method that the main pagoda of Wat Chang Rop was likely built around the 21st Buddhist century. #Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park
