Khao Laem Cave, Kanchanaburi Province

This temple was originally established from Khao Laem Cave in Kanchanaburi Province, which is only 3 kilometers away from the provincial hall. It is said that in this cave there was a Buddha image that was worshipped by the locals. When the monk was first found in the cave, he was made of cement. The locals called him Luang Pho Cheuy because the people at that time did not know what to name him. There were also wandering monks who came to stay in this cave regularly. Later, a wandering monk named Phra Boontham came to stay in Khao Laem Cave. He saw that the air in this cave was clear and quiet, and there was also a principal Buddha image in the cave, which made him very pleased. So he stayed in the cave for two or three Buddhist Lents. The locals and relatives were very happy to have a monk there to make merit with again. Phra Ajahn Boontham began to develop the cave. He saw that the mouth of Khao Laem Cave was narrow and difficult to enter and exit, so he hired people to blast the mouth of the cave to make it wider. After blasting the rocks, he collected the blasted rocks and stacked them at the mouth of the cave to make a flat area large enough to build a small hut, because there were no huts yet. Whenever monks or laypeople came to make merit, they had to go into the cave. He worked continuously until he had enough space to build a hut, but it was very sad. Ajahn Boontham had to pass away. The hut he wanted to build had not yet been built. His stone yard was not yet complete. The villagers were all sad because everyone was eager to have a monk stay there before he passed away. Since then, there were monks staying there sometimes and sometimes not. After about two rainy seasons, another monk, a Chinese man named Ajahn Lim, came to stay for one rainy season. When he came, he developed and expanded from the original by clearing the area in front of the cave where Ajahn Boontham had left it. The reason he came to stay was because the cave was peaceful and the air was clear. So he stayed there for one rainy season. After Ajahn Lim left, another monk came to stay, but it is not clear where he came from. This monk was named Phra Mom Luang Sanan.
