Triund Hike, Dharamshala

#favouriteitinerary The Triund hike is one of the most popular treks near Dharamshala, known for its breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar mountain range and the Kangra Valley. The trail, which is about 9 kilometers (5.5 miles) one way, starts from McLeod Ganj, a suburb of Dharamshala, and ascends through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and deodar trees. The trek is moderately challenging, making it accessible for people with a basic fitness level, though it does involve some steep sections. The hike usually takes about 4-6 hours to reach the summit, depending on your pace. Once you reach Triund, at an altitude of about 2,827 meters (9,275 feet), you’re greeted with panoramic views of the snow-capped Dhauladhar range and the valleys below. The sight of the sun setting behind the mountains is a highlight, making it a great spot for photography. Many visitors choose to camp overnight at the top of Triund to enjoy the tranquility and starry skies. There is a small guesthouse and basic facilities, but bringing your own camping gear is a popular option. The best time to do the Triund hike is between March to June and September to December, when the weather is pleasant and the views are clear.

Kareri Lake

Approx. 10 Km trek from the base. The whole trek is just awesome. On an average it takes 4-5 hours, and if possible spent one night there and enjoy born fire and sun rise. 70% of the path is just beside the small river, but steep ascent. Temperature is generally low at Lake, so keep some warm clothes with you. Rain is totally unpredictable, so try to keep a rain coat with you . Avoid trekking in monsoon as it is a bit risky that time. In the Kareri village there are so many home stays and Hosteller also, so Friday night you can spent there and then early morning start trekking.
