Wat Chamdevi, 1300 year legend

#Winter travel destinations - Wat Chamadevi or Ku Kut is an ancient temple with a long history in Lamphun Province. - According to legend, in 1298, Queen Chamadevi led Lavo craftsmen (now Lopburi Province) to build the Suwannajangkot Chedi, a rectangular chedi in the style of Bodh Gaya in India. On every side are standing Buddha statues in the posture of bestowing blessings, in the style of Lopburi art. There are standing Buddha statues in the niches on all four sides, 15 statues on each side, totaling 60 statues. Inside are the ashes of Queen Chamadevi. The chedi contains the ashes of Queen Chamadevi. Originally, the chedi’s top was covered in gold. - Later, over a thousand years later, “Suwannajangkot Chedi” deteriorated, the chedi’s top broke off and disappeared, becoming an abandoned temple. The villagers called this temple “Wat Ku Kut” (Ku Kut in Lanna means a chedi with a broken top).
