Enshi Tenglong Cave

Tenglong Cave (Ténglóng Dòng) in Enshi, Hubei Province, China is a huge, world-class karst cave, and its mysterious natural scenery, where the source of the Qingjiang River flows into, is its charm. #Tourism in China ### **Basic Information** - **Name**: Tenglong Cave (Tōryūdō / Tenglōndō) - **Location**: Lichuan City, Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei Province - **Characteristics**: - **With a total length of approximately 59 km** (tourist area is approximately 8 km), it is one of the largest caves in Asia. - Inside the cave, there is an underground river (underflow of the Qingjiang River), stalactites, and a huge hall (over 100 m high). - It was designated as a "China National Geopark" in 2005, and certified as a 5A-level tourist site in 2020. --- ### **Highlights** 1. **Majestic cave entrance** - The huge arched entrance, 74m high and 64m wide, is a masterpiece. It was named "Tenglong Cave" because of the mist and waterfalls that appear and the scenery that looks like a dragon soaring. 2. **Illuminated stalactites** - The "perpetual stalactites" and "stone curtains" illuminated with colorful lights are fantastic. 3. **Shows inside the cave** - **Laser show**: A light performance using the cave walls as a screen (held 2-3 times a day). - **Tujia song and dance performance**: You can watch the Tujia people's traditional dance "Tsing Shou Dance" and songs. 4. **Underground River and Stalactite Bridge** - The Wolongtun River, created by the underground flow of the Qing River, is a spectacular spot where water falls like a waterfall near the entrance of the cave. 5. **Cave Exploration Course** (reservation required) - Adventure tours exploring undeveloped areas with helmets and headlamps are also popular. --- ### **Access** - **From Enshi City**: - About 1.5 hours (60km) by car. Use a tourist bus or taxi. - **From Lichuan City**: - About 30 minutes (12km) by car. Shuttle bus available from the city. - **Admission Fee**: About 180 RMB (including laser show). --- ### **Notes & Recommended Seasons** - **Clothing**: The temperature inside the cave is cool at around **15℃** throughout the year, so a jacket is required. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. - **Best season**: **Spring to Autumn** (March to November). During the rainy season (June to July), the water volume increases and the falls become more impressive. - **Japanese support**: Local guides only speak Chinese.
