Lake Constance refers to three bodies of water on the Rhine River located at the northern foot of the Alps: Upper Lake Constance, Lower Lake Constance and a lake connected to the Rhine called the Seerhine. These bodies of water are located in the Lake Constance basin in the Alpine foreland, through which the Rhine River flows. Lake Constance has a circumference of 273 kilometers, of which only 18 kilometers are in the small town of Lindau in Bavaria, Germany. It is also part of Germany's western border. Lindau borders the Austrian town of Hörbranz. The maximum depth of Lake Constance is 251.14 meters and the average depth is 90 meters.
