Teatro Largo, Llanquihue Lake, Chile

The Lago Theater is located in Flordia on the west bank of Chile's Lake Llanquihue, which was selected as a UNESCO City of Music. As a celebration project of the new century, the Lago Theater, which cost $44 million, held its opening ceremony on November 6, 2010 after 12 years of construction. Teatro del Lago is not only a cultural expression of Chile and Latin America, but also a social gathering point for the greater southern region of Chile. World-class art and culture coexist within its facilities, while conference functions and celebration spaces are an integral part of the theatre. The building’s facade is made of wood in Bakelite, an artistic and colorful work typical of the region, and also of copper roofing, the main product of Chilean mining. The entire building's architectural concept combines energy efficiency with environmental harmony, as its facades and windows are thermally and acoustically insulated. Its main hall, Espacio Tronador-Sala Nestlé, can accommodate approximately 1,200 seats. The auditorium consists of three floors and has approximately 800 acoustic panels, each with a different shape and design. The seats and all the materials used for them are manufactured in Chile and meet all the requirements defined by German acoustic expert Karlheinz Mueller. Likewise, its stage has important technical features that allow all performances to have world-class acoustics. The 10,000 square meter Lago Theater also has other spaces such as the Lanquihue Lake Amphitheater, a ballet hall and various multi-purpose rooms where seminars, conferences, weddings, presentations and other events can be held.
