2025 Spring Tour to Tibet: Self-driving on the Lhasa-Nyingchi Highway

The Lhasa-Nyingchi Highway is 409.2 kilometers long and runs parallel to the Lhasa-Nyingchi section of National Highway G318. It is a magical road from the "Sunshine City" Lhasa to the "Snowy Jiangnan" Nyingchi. It is different from other fully enclosed highways. It has many ramps in the middle and the viewing platforms are open. Along the way, there are grasslands, rivers, forests, lakes, glaciers, mountains, villages... satisfying any fantasy of yours about the beautiful scenery of the road. Drive east along National Highway 318 and enter the Lhasa-Nyingchi Expressway, with the Lhasa River accompanying you all the way. The river water is clear and blue, and under the caress of the plateau sunshine, the waves sparkle as if countless tiny diamonds are pouring onto the river surface. In the distance, continuous mountains surround the Lhasa River. The lush vegetation on the mountains reflects the blue sky and white clouds, which is magnificent. After passing through the Mila Mountain Tunnel, you enter the Niyang River Valley. Mila Mountain is the watershed between the Lhasa River and the Niyang River. To the west of Mila Mountain is the Lhasa River Basin, and to the east of Mila Mountain is the Niyang River Basin. The water of the Niyang River is clear and green, shimmering in the sunlight. The mountains on both sides are steep, the cliffs are towering, and the clouds are shrouded in mist. The blue sky, white clouds, green mountains and green trees set off each other, forming a beautiful and poetic picture. As the car passed by the Buddha's Palm Sand Dunes, the unique sand dune landscape was eye-catching. The Buddha Palm Sand Dune lies quietly on the north bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River and is named after its shape which resembles the Buddha's palms clasped together. It is composed of continuous sand hills with fine sand. At the junction of the river and the mountain, a sand dune suddenly appears, sparkling with golden light under the sunlight, forming a sharp contrast with the surrounding green mountains and waters. It is definitely a stroke of genius from nature! We continued on our way and entered the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon. The scenery here is even more spectacular, with mountains on one side, cliffs on the other, and the rushing Yarlung Zangbo River below. The river is surging and majestic, stirring up layers of waves in the canyon. After several hours' drive, we arrived at the Sosong Village Observation Deck. This is an excellent place to view Mount Namjagbarwa. In the distance, Mount Namjagbarwa is like a giant isolated from the world, towering and reaching into the sky. Surrounded by clouds and mist, it appears and disappears from time to time, showing its mysteriousness. The destination, Suosong Village, is located in Pai Town, Milin County, Nyingchi City. It is situated on the north bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River and faces China's most beautiful snow-capped mountain, Mount Namjagbarwa. The observation deck behind the village overlooks the entire village, which is like a paradise surrounded by snow-capped mountains and peach blossoms. Sosong Village
