Mdina, the silent city and former capital of the Republic of Malta

Mdina, the ancient capital of Malta, is known as the "Silent City" surrounded by medieval walls. Before the current capital, Valletta, was built, Mdina was the capital of the Republic of Malta. You can get there by bus from Valletta, and its maze of quiet alleys and beautiful architecture are its charms. If you visit, St. Paul's Cathedral and Cafe Fontanella are must-sees! Cafe Fontanella's chocolate cake is especially delicious! I recommend visiting in the mild weather of spring or autumn.
