[Tokyo, Shirokane] YAECA HOME STORE Choi Hee-ju Exhibition

#0yentravel In Korea, there is a culture of giving dried cod as a gift for housewarmings and store openings. When I first saw a dried cod made of cloth at the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul (and this was the first time I saw Choi Hee-joo's work), I wondered what purpose it played. Dried cod is said to have eyes that ward off evil spirits, so it is chosen as a lucky gift. The cloth version has no smell, and is beautifully stitched, which soothes the viewer. I had the opportunity to see a collection of Choi Hee-joo's works not in Korea, but in Shirokane, Tokyo. The cloth dried cod I once saw was also swimming comfortably in the air. I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful space and the works.
