Right beside Morioka Castle Site Park, we made a short but meaningful stop at Sakurayama Shrine—a compact yet spiritually rich site that offered a lovely local touch to our visit. The shrine is easily accessible if you’re already exploring the park—you can just park your car at the basement lot under the castle ruins and walk over. It’s not a large shrine by any means, but its presence is serene and unmistakably respected. Even during our brief visit, we noticed several locals coming by to offer their prayers, which gave the place a lived-in, authentic feel. That quiet stream of visitors suggested that Sakurayama Shrine is deeply rooted in the local community, likely one of the more revered shrines in the area despite its modest size. It’s a peaceful place to pause and reflect, and a nice addition to the stroll through the historical castle grounds.
