Morioka Castle Ruins (Morioka Castle Ruins Park)

Morioka Castle Ruins is a prominent historical site in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. Originally built as a modern castle by the Nanbu clan in 1597, the castle's main keep was never completed, and its buildings no longer exist. However, the impressive granite stone walls remain well-preserved to this day, making it one of the few places in the Tohoku region where the original stone wall structures can still be seen. The site holds significant historical and aesthetic value. The castle ruins area is now designated as "Iwate Park," which retains remnants such as the Honmaru (main enclosure) and Ninomaru (second enclosure). The park features stone monuments, memorial facilities, and lush walking paths. In spring, it is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Morioka, while in autumn, visitors can enjoy the vibrant fall foliage. Each season offers a unique charm. From elevated spots in the park, you can enjoy panoramic views of Morioka City and the distant Mount Iwate. Within the park, you'll also find "Sakurayama Shrine" and "Eboshiiwa Rock," the latter being considered an energy spot in Morioka.
