Nakhon Luang Castle, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Location: Village No. 1, Nakhon Luang Subdistrict, Nakhon Luang District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province Open daily from 06.00 - 18.00 hrs. Nakhon Luang Castle, or Phra Maha Prasat Phra Nakhon Luang, or Phra Thinang Nakhon Luang, is believed to have been built in 2174 during the reign of King Prasat Thong, 1 year after Wat Chaiwatthanaram was built. It is located on the eastern bank of the Pa Sak River. Tourists often come to pray to the Ganesha statue in the Mara-conquering posture, which is a powerful and auspicious pose. Ganesha sits on a skull pedestal, symbolizing victory over all obstacles and evil, and helps eliminate and dispel problems.
