Ming Muang Nan Temple, Lanna Heritage

Wat Ming Mueang is located on Suriyapong Road in the city center of Nan. It is home to the city pillar of Nan. The highlight is the beautiful and intricate stucco on the outer walls of the chapel, which is the work of the Chiang Saen craftsmen. Inside, there are murals showing the way of life of the people of Nan, made by local craftsmen of the present day. The city pillar, which is in the Chaturamuk pavilion, is approximately 3 meters high. The base is decorated with carved wood and gilded with lacquer. The top of the pillar is carved with the faces of Brahma, named Metta, Karuna, Mudita, and Upekkha. Wat Ming Mueang was originally an abandoned temple. There was a large log pillar that two people could hug around it, found in the ruins of the temple around 1857. Prince Anantaworaritdet, the ruler of Nan, established a new temple and named it Wat Ming Mueang, after the name of the city pillar, Ming Mueang Pillar.
