Visit the temple and admire the late Ayutthaya-era ordination hall.

🏡 Wat Makham was built around 1630 during the Ayutthaya period by Mon people who migrated to seek refuge under the Thai monarchy. It is believed that the area where the temple was constructed had many tamarind trees, or it might have been named after the original Mon settlement. 🏞 As the newly dug river became wider and the original Chao Phraya River became shallow, a new temple was built facing the new river. This resulted in two temples: the new one named Wat Makham Nok (Outer Wat Makham) or Wat Makham Nuea (Northern Wat Makham), and the original one called Wat Makham Nai (Inner Wat Makham). Later, Wat Makham Nai was abandoned and merged with the new temple under the name Wat Makham since 1939.
