Wat Ratchakhrue: A Historical Temple Linked to Sukhothai

🏡 Wat Ratchakhrue was built in 1900 (B.E. 2443) and was originally called Wat Mai. It was once the site of Wat Mahaphon, where remnants of ancient artifacts and the old pagoda of Wat Mahaphon can still be seen. Evidence suggests that it is an ancient temple over 1,300 years old. 🏘 This temple also has ties to the Sukhothai Kingdom. In the past, there were battles against the Sukhothai Kingdom, and records indicate that the brass roof of the temple's vihara was melted down to create firearms for defense against Sukhothai invasions. Key attractions within the temple include: 🏠 The ordination hall (Ubosot), which houses a sandstone Buddha image in the Mara Vichaya posture, adorned with lacquer and gold leaf. 🛕 The pagoda, featuring an octagonal design with indented corners and niches on all four sides. The main structure is surrounded by four smaller pagodas, and the bell-shaped section is coated in gold. The entrance gates of the sacred wall are adorned with paired lion statues on all four sides. This ancient relic has been consistently restored over time. 🛕 The arched gateway (Khoang Gate) at the temple entrance is large, made of brick and plaster, and features stucco angel sculptures.
