Wat Phra That Chae Haeng, a royal temple

is located in Muang Tued Subdistrict. It is a sacred site situated on a hill on the eastern bank of the Nan River, in the area that used to be the center of the old Nan city after it was moved from Muang Pua. Wat Phra That Chae Haeng was built during the reign of Phaya Kan Muang (the ruler of Nan, 1869-1902 BE) to house the seven Phra Maha Chindathat Buddha images, silver and gold Buddha images, which were bestowed by King Maha Thammaracha Lithai when Phaya Kan Muang went to help build Wat Luang Aphai (currently Wat Pa Mamuang in Sukhothai) in 1897 BE. Notable features within the temple include Phra Borommathat Chae Haeng, the zodiacal stupa for those born in the Year of the Rabbit. The stupa is a bell-shaped chedi, believed to be influenced by the Hariphunchai stupa. The stupa is covered with gold leaf (a mix of brass and copper). The staircase leading to the stupa is adorned with Naga figures. The gable above the entrance to the vihara is decorated with stucco Naga patterns, which are characteristic of Nan's art.
