Roman Forum.

The Roman Forum, also known as the Roman Market, is located in the center of Rome, between the Palatine Hill, Quirinal Hill, and Capitoline Hill. It was the political, economic, cultural, and religious center of the Roman Empire, representing the splendor of Roman architecture, and is known as an "open-air museum." It was originally a swamp, but was renovated into a market and meeting place around the 6th century BC. As the empire prospered, various buildings reflecting urban, religious, and political life began to accumulate. ● Main buildings and highlights: ● Arch of Titus: The oldest surviving arch in Rome, built in 81 AD to commemorate Titus and his father Vespasian's suppression of the Jewish rebellion. The arch features reliefs depicting spoils of war and victory scenes. ● Temple of Antoninus and Faustina: Built by Antoninus Pius for his deified wife Faustina, it is well-preserved, but the Baroque-style top creates a visual discord. ● Curia: A 3rd-century building that still retains its original multicolored mosaic floor, steps for 300 senators to sit and discuss state affairs, and the speaker's podium. ● Via Sacra: The oldest road in Rome, paved with black basalt, winding from the Arch of Titus through the Roman Market to Capitoline Hill. Heroes of the Roman Republic would parade here, but it gradually declined. ● Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine: Built around 315 AD, it features three large arched structures and is one of the largest buildings in ancient Rome, serving as the legal and financial center of the Roman Empire. ● Temple of Vesta: A circular temple dedicated to Vesta, the goddess of the hearth, said to contain an eternal flame guarded by vestal virgins.
