Wat Somdej (Old), Kanchanaburi

Wat Somdej (old) is located on a small hill opposite the underwater city. It was built by Phra Khru Wimol Kanchanakun, the abbot of Nong Lu sub-district. It is a temple that was not submerged in water, but was abandoned when Sangkhlaburi District was moved when the Vajiralongkorn Dam (Khao Laem Dam) was built. The ordination hall of Wat Somdej has a principal Buddha image that is in relatively good condition. The chapel is surrounded by large banyan trees, giving it a mystical look.
