Stayed at a super charming retro homestay in Shanghai

The dormitory was clean with comfortable beds and lockers for storage - really nice. Dropping my backpack, I instantly felt relaxed. The hostel's common area was quite interesting too - a spacious lounge with cozy sofas and vintage tables/chairs, adorned with black-and-white photos of old Shanghai. A small bookshelf in the corner held some books and magazines. I settled by the window overlooking a quiet little street with equally charming old buildings across the way. After resting my feet, hunger struck. Wandering outside, I discovered numerous winding alleys filled with small shops: coffee-scented cafes, bakeries with delicate pastries, and authentic-looking local Shanghainese restaurants with tiny storefronts. Ended up choosing a noodle shop for a steaming bowl of scallion oil noodles - delicious! Post-meal, with daylight lingering, I explored near the subway station where it was noticeably livelier - convenience stores, fruit stands, and snack shops lined up one after another, full of local vibes. Bought some fruits before leisurely strolling back. Evening brought a hot shower and returning to the dorm. Roommates were either on their phones or chatting softly in a relaxed atmosphere. Climbing into my bunk, I drew the curtain and turned on the bedside light - this little space felt surprisingly secure. Scrolling through daytime photos: the Bund's grand buildings, alleyway light/shadow plays, and the hostel's beautiful tiles and stained glass.
