#0yentravelnovember [Details] Perry Road At the end of the Edo period, Commodore Perry and his party marched along this road to sign the Shimoda Treaty, an appendix to the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan, at Ryosenji Temple. The area still retains the image of the entertainment district of Shimoda, a port town once famous for 3,000 ships arriving and departing. The stone-paved road continues along the Hiraname River, and the rows of houses made of Izu stone and namako walls, as well as the rows of willow trees, create a unique atmosphere. In addition to Ryosenji Temple, Chorakuji Temple, where the Treaty of Peace and Amity between Japan and Russia was signed, and Shimoda Park, famous for its Hydrangea Festival, are also located in this area, and there are many unique shops, making it a representative tourist spot in Shimoda that attracts many tourists. This Perry Road won the Grand Prize in the 7th Shizuoka Prefecture Urban Landscape Award (1994).
