Shiraz - City of Nightingales and Roses 🌹

Shiraz, also spelled Shirāz, is the capital city of Fārsostān province in southwestern Iran. It is located in the central part of Fars, south of the Zagros Mountains, at an elevation of 1486 meters (4,875 feet) in an agricultural lowland. It is famous for its wine and is both a historic site and a charming modern city with gardens, temples, and mosques. Shiraz is the birthplace of Persian poets Saadi and Hāfez, whose garden tombs have been beautifully renovated and are located in the northern suburbs. Despite catastrophic floods (in 1630 and 1668), plagues, famines, and earthquakes (mainly in 1824 and 1853), most of the city has been spared. Shiraz has been praised repeatedly by romantic poets and travelers and is revered as the birthplace of the great Persian literary masters Hāfez and Saadi, a city full of tradition and culture. Visitors will be able to see the tombs of the great writers located between the Afifabad and Eram gardens, dotted with palm trees and blooming flowers, as well as the intricate vine patterns inside the Nasiral-Mulk Mosque and the Qor' one Gate, which has a history of 1000 years. Surprisingly, the town is also named after a popular wine, and although the stacked vineyards of Fars province have long since dried up, it is believed that some of the world's earliest white wines were produced here nearly seven thousand years ago.
