I feel like this artist is on a spiritual journey

At the Yingmeng Art Salon, watching 'Time • Space — Crossing the River of Memory' by Wang Ziqi, my mouth was wide open the whole time, constantly in awe. The paintings are so meticulously done! He uses the tempera technique, which to me seems like a form of spiritual practice, with each stroke and layer taking a considerable amount of time. This kind of devotion isn't about ascension or enlightenment; it's all about the love for the art. Some might not be familiar with tempera, so let me put it this way for easy understanding: the Renaissance. This technique has obvious advantages, such as the texture in Da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa' and Botticelli's 'The Birth of Venus'. The period when these works were created corresponds to the reign of Zhu Youtang during the Ming Dynasty in China. It's remarkable that these ancient works still maintain their vibrant colors to this day. But why is it that we rarely see this technique in exhibitions nowadays? First, it's indeed very time-consuming, and second, it might not align with contemporary trends, as the current art appreciation and market tend to discard technique. Because of the slow pace, Wang Ziqi doesn't exhibit frequently, sometimes going 1 or 2 years without participating in an exhibition. However, the exhibitions he does participate in are generally of high quality. He has exhibited in Germany, Austria, Norway, participated in the Beijing International Art Biennale in 2008 and 2012, and has been involved in the Taipei International Art Fair and the Hong Kong Asian Art Fair, as well as a four-person sketch exhibition with Gao Xiaohua, He Duoling, and Pang Maokun. This time, he mainly brought two series of works, which can be represented by the names of his works. One series is 'Gannan Spring and Autumn', created after he drove to the Tibetan area to experience life and returned. The other is 'Cold Mountain', with lingering hometown sentiments. The appearance of the lamas is actually a carrier of his inner world, expressing that even modern people can maintain their inner pursuits regardless of their environment.
