Oh Poy @ Ratchaburi Morning Market

Oh Poi comes from the Karen language and means “rest.” The community in Suan Phueng District, Ratchaburi Province, is partly made up of Thais of Karen descent. In the past, the Karen, along with the Mon, migrated from Burma to Siam and helped protect this land for as long as all Thais, since the time of the Thai-Burmese war. Oh Poi is a morning market located on the banks of the Pachi River. It opens from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. A highlight not to be missed is the alms-giving ceremony from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. to monks floating on bamboo rafts along the Pachi River. This is a beautiful and auspicious traditional event for visitors. The sacred Pachi River flows from the south to the north.
