Eat a fresh oyster buffet in Mie Prefecture

Mie Prefecture, Japan is a coastal prefecture in the Kansai region. It is famous for its seafood and pearl cultivation. Toba City, Mie Prefecture, is so famous that this street is called “Oyster Street”. When talking about Mie’s famous winter food, oysters are the first thing to come to mind. We drove to Onoura Bay from Pearl Road Seaside, and we found Oyster Street. You will see signs saying “Oyster Buffet” hanging everywhere. To eat the oyster buffet, you should make a reservation in advance. If you walk in, you may not get a table or have to wait in line for a long time. Oysters are only available from November to March because oysters are only available in winter. Today, we made a reservation at a restaurant called “Yamayasu Fishery”, which sells fresh seafood. They caught them themselves from the sea. The shop opens from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The price of the oyster buffet is 3,000 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for children aged 5 and over. There is no time limit, meaning that we can sit and eat all day long!!! When you arrive, walk into the shop, tell them your name and reservation time, and pay. The staff will give you cloth gloves, plates, and knives, and take you to your table. Each table has a grill for you to grill yourself. The oysters are served in a net bag. If you finish eating them, you can get a new bag at the counter. There are no dipping sauces or drinks here. You have to prepare them yourself. However, if you didn't bring a drink, there is an automatic water dispenser. In addition to the shop's oysters, you can grill your own meat or vegetables. The shop also sells oyster rice, oyster miso soup, and fried oysters separately. There is also a service to buy fresh oysters to take home. They recommend eating the oysters cooked. It probably depends on the type of oyster. The staff will tell you how to grill them. Put the oysters on the stove and close the lid for about 5-10 minutes. Observe the shells. If they start to burn and there is no water leaking from the oysters, they are ready to eat. We tried the first bite of the oysters and it was awesome!! Fresh oysters have a sweet taste. Eating them with our seafood sauce is the best!!
