[Tokyo/Asakusa Fuji Asakusa Shrine] Fujizuka in Asakusa

Asakusa Shrine serves eight shrines, one of which is the Asakusa Fuji Sengen Shrine. It was founded as a place of worship for Mt. Fuji, so there is a Fujizuka (fuji mound) on the grounds! During the Genroku period (1688-1703), it was transferred from Fuji Sengen Shrine in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture to Miyoshi-cho in Kuramae. Later, by order of the shogunate, it was moved to its current location, which is on a small hill resembling Mt. Fuji.
