Trat City Pillar Shrine

Trat City Pillar Shrine is located on Lak Muang Road near Wat Yothanimit. This shrine is different from other city pillar shrines because the building is built in the form of a Chinese pavilion. Trat City Pillar Shrine is an important part of Trat and is the center of the hearts of both Thais and Chinese people who have lived in the province since the past until the present. There is a story that the establishment of the city pillar was around the same time as the construction of Wat Yothanimit when the army was gathered to restore independence in Trat. King Taksin ordered the construction according to Chinese beliefs to protect Trat from danger and for the people to live in peace and happiness. The City Pillar Shrine is like the center of Thai-Chinese relations. Inside the City Pillar Shrine, the tall pillar is the city pillar and the low pillar is the Shiva Linga pillar. There is a story that the Shiva Linga was originally in Tambon Huai Raeng. The city lord at that time traveled there and people believed in it and worshipped it. They believed that it could cure diseases, so they invited it to be placed together as an important part of the city to this day. As for the city pillar shrine, it was originally a wooden building with a zinc roof behind the city pillar shrine. Inside, there is a model of the City Pillar Shrine written in Chinese. It was built by Chinese people in Trat Province. Later, a new building was built to replace the dilapidated wooden building and the statue of the Lord was invited to be enshrined. #historicculture
