Making merit on the last day of Buddhist Lent | Wat Buppharam | Trat

Ok Phansa Day, also known as Mahapavarana Day, is an important day in Thai-Lao Buddhism. It marks the end of the 3-month Buddhist Lent for Theravada monks. This is the day when monks perform the Sangha Karma, or Pavarana, on this day. Ok Phansa Day (Ok Purim Phansa 1) falls on the 15th day of the waxing moon in the 11th month (around October), 3 months after the beginning of the Buddhist Lent according to the Thai lunar calendar. Pavarana is a specific Buddhist discipline for monks, called a type of Nitti Kamma (Sangha Karma). It gives monks who have stayed together for the entire 3-month Buddhist Lent an opportunity to admonish and point out each other's shortcomings equally. It is a day when monks with less seniority can admonish monks with more seniority, with good intentions for each other. This gives the admonished monks the opportunity to recognize their shortcomings and use them to improve themselves. At the same time, if there is a misunderstanding, they can explain, correct, or adjust their understanding, because what they see, hear, or suspect may have hidden stories or may not be as they thought. They also give an opportunity to apologize. Who realize that they caused trouble to the group and apologize for the misunderstanding and give an opportunity to ask each other questions to resolve the misunderstanding. When the end of Buddhist Lent arrives, Buddhists consider it a good opportunity to go to the temple to make merit for themselves who intend to be male and female lay devotees. As for monks, they have stayed and studied Dhamma for the entire three months (3 months) or on the following day, which is the real end of Buddhist Lent (the first waning day of the 11th month). Buddhists in Thailand like to make merit by offering food to monks, called the alms festival, Thevo or Thevo Rohana, to commemorate an important event in the life of the Buddha, which states that the Buddha returned from the heavenly world to the human world after teaching the gods, the former Buddha's mother, Queen Siri Mahamaya, on the second level of the Davadungsa heaven in the seventh rains retreat.
