#NewYearNewTrip The city of Trier was founded by the Romans under Emperor Augustus and named Augusta Treverorum. It became an important Roman center in Gaul and was the seat of the emperors in the 3rd-4th centuries. This allowed visitors to see important architecture such as the Porta Nigra (Roman city gate), the Roman amphitheater, the Imperial Baths and the Cathedral. Trier, which is known as the oldest city in Germany, is located in the west of the country, near the Luxembourg border.
