Wat Chaeng

Wat Chaeng, Ubon Ratchathani Province It is an ancient temple in Ubon Ratchathani Province. It was built during the reign of King Rama V by Chao Ratchabut (Nukham), one of the four criminal groups who ruled Ubon Ratchathani. The ordination hall or “Sim” of Wat Chaeng is in the traditional Isan architecture. It is a rectangular plan facing east. There is only one staircase at the front. The handrail is made of cement in the shape of a crocodile. The wooden pediment is carved with a mix of local and central Thai patterns. The roof is single-storey. It was originally covered with wooden tiles, but later changed to terracotta tiles. It is decorated with Isan-style gable decorations, raka leaves, and swan tails.
