Into the wild: Umphang

#cityplaybook Getting to Umphang From Bangkok: Drive to Mae Sot (approx. 7–8 hours), then continue to Umphang (164 km via winding mountain roads). From Mae Sot: Take a songthaew (local truck) or hire a private vehicle. The drive takes 4–6 hours along the scenic and curvy Route 1090 (with 1,219 curves!). 4WD vehicles are strongly recommended, especially in rainy season. Best Time to Visit Cool season (Nov–Feb): Best weather for trekking, rafting, and sightseeing. Rainy season (Jun–Oct): Lush scenery and dramatic waterfalls, but rougher roads and limited access to some sites. Avoid summer (Mar–May) if you’re sensitive to heat or haze from forest fires.#umphang
