Luang Pho Phet (or Luang Pho Phet) According to legend, in the year 2436, while Luang Pho Duang, the abbot of Wat Mon Mai, was traveling back from an invitation to Wat Sawang Arom, Tambon Phai Lom, Amphoe Laplae, when passing Wat Sakae, which was an abandoned temple, he found a large termite mound with the hair of a Buddha statue protruding from it. When digging, he found that it was a Buddha statue, so he brought it to be enshrined at Wat Mon Mai. After that, Luang Pho Phet was moved to be enshrined at Wat Wang Tao Mo (currently Wat Tha Thanon) because Luang Pho Duang saw that Wat Mon Mai did not have a chapel to enshrine Luang Pho Phet to honor him, so he brought it to be given to Luang Pho Phet (the abbot’s name) at Wat Wang Tao Mo. In the year 2443, Luang Pho Phet was taken to be enshrined at Wat Benchamabophit in Bangkok, which caused Luang Pho Phet (the abbot) to be very sad and left Wat Wang Tao Mo to practice Dhamma in the forest.
